View Article  Update from Asia

Hi there. I hope that everything in the good ole south is going very well for you guys and gals. I have been in Asia for the past three weeks competing at World Cups for Short Track ice, and before that, just getting ready for the upcoming season. I wanted to update you all with how it went.

Well, I am not sure if you have been updated on how the past weekend race went for Team USA and I. It went VERY well!!! We, team USA men, finished 3rd overall for the team standings, which is very respectable. I finished 9th in the 1000m, number 1 American, and 13th in the 1500m.

This is my second season on the World Cup scene for short track, and it is always very exciting. Watching the best of the best Korean Olympic Gold Medalist (x3) Ahn Hyun-Soo control everyone is pretty amazing, and it gets me fired up at the same time.

As I’m sure you know, I compete in both the Short track and Long track. They are two completely different sports. And the same goes with the team environment as well. Long track is a bit more laid back and more of a camaraderie with everyone because we are not racing each other -- we are racing ourselves.

In Short track, on the other hand, we are racing each other, practicing against each other and eating together. It is a very intense situation with everyone. So at times it can be very difficult on our mental state.

On a brighter note, Asia has been amazing. The people, the culture, the food -- it all is something that I wish everyone can experience. We train everyday, twice a day when we are not racing or traveling, and it makes for some very tired puppies!! Ha ha

Well, we had a TEAM USA dinner, getting some Kobe beef (if you have ever heard of that??)  I sure wish that Mayfield had some sort of Kiosk/Vending machine type of thing around the world with all my favorite ice creams and of course my MILK. I hope that everyone is safe in their own parts of the world!!

Thanks,

Ryan
